Energy Globe Award is a annual industry award recognizing excellence in Sustainability. Organized by Energy Globe Foundation, it covers the Global region. Established in 1999.
The Energy Globe Award is one of the world's largest environmental prizes by participation, founded in 1999 by Austrian energy pioneer Wolfgang Neumann and organised by the independent Energy Globe Foundation. Implemented environmental projects from more than 180 countries are submitted each year — the foundation's database holds around 40,000 projects submitted since 2000 — spanning resource conservation, air and water quality, energy efficiency, renewables and environmental education. An international jury of roughly 30 energy and environmental experts, chaired by Maneka Gandhi, evaluates every project.
The program runs in tiers: the best project in each participating country wins a National Energy Globe Award (presented in over 90 countries, some in televised galas), and the strongest projects then compete for the year-end Energy Globe World Award in the categories Earth, Fire, Water, Air and Youth, plus an annual special category. The World Award ceremony has substantial broadcast reach — the foundation reports its 2022 ceremony was broadcast to an audience of more than 250 million — making it a visibility play as much as a trophy for winning projects, which also gain connections to environmental experts and potential investors.
Participation is free of charge and open to individuals, companies, NGOs, schools, universities and public authorities, in English or German. Only implemented projects (or those nearing completion with assessable results, such as a working prototype) are considered, and the foundation explicitly scores the completeness and quality of the submission itself, so use its official Word/PDF template before filling the online form. Deadlines are set per cycle and published on the FAQ page; the award is assigned to the country where the project was implemented.
