Ume Habiba

Ume is a senior at the University of Maryland, College Park studying Information Science and Computer Science. She is from Baltimore, Maryland and enjoys the city life!

Throughout her various years in tech, she noticed the lack of diversity and the massive “gatekeeping” culture that surrounds a lot of the field. Her observations and personal experiences motivated her to start a mentorship program, where she essentially coaches early career professionals to help them land a role in tech. Helping to diminish this bubble that surrounds the industry is something she feels highly passionate about and is reflected throughout her various pursuits.

She plans to pursue a career using her technical skills to make a change in the world, whether that be helping develop new software for companies that align with her mission or becoming a professor for introductory CS courses.
