About This Award

World Architecture Festival Awards is a annual industry award recognizing excellence in Real-Estate. Organized by World Architecture Festival (EMAP Publishing Limited), it covers the Global region. Established in 2008.

The World Architecture Festival Awards are the live-judged global awards at the heart of WAF, first held in Barcelona in 2008 and run by UK-based EMAP Publishing. The format is unique among major architecture prizes: shortlisted teams present their projects live — a 10-minute presentation followed by 8 minutes of Q&A — to panels of three international category judges in open 'crit' rooms that any festival delegate can watch, with category winners announced daily and super-juries deciding the overall prizes.

Entries run across three streams — Completed Buildings (17 categories), Future Projects (15 categories) and WAF Interiors (9 categories) — feeding program-level honors including World Building of the Year, the festival's top prize. Because the festival has rotated through Barcelona, Singapore, Berlin, Amsterdam and, since 2025, the USA, and shortlists draw hundreds of projects from dozens of countries, a WAF shortlist or win brings substantial international press coverage and direct exposure to a global professional audience.

Entries typically close in late April (24 April for the 2026 awards, with early-bird pricing until mid-March and late entries accepted after the deadline at a premium), with fees of £795–£995 for Completed Buildings, Future Projects and Landscape entries and £645–£845 for Interiors, depending on how early you enter. The shortlist lands in June–July and live judging happens at the festival in November. Budget beyond the entry fee: finalists must present in person at the festival, so factor travel and delegate costs into the decision. Strong entries pair a clear project narrative with strong visuals — and a presenter who can defend the project convincingly in live Q&A.
