About This Award

Australian HR Awards is a annual media recognizing excellence in Human-Resources. Organized by HRD / Key Media (KM Business Information Australia), it covers the Asia Pacific region. Established in 2014.

The Australian HR Awards are the national HR awards presented by HRD (Human Resources Director) and parent company Key Media (KM Business Information Australia), first held in 2014 — HRD announced its 10th annual edition in 2023. Billed as the premier independent programme recognising Australia's most outstanding HR professionals, teams and employers, the awards run a five-stage process: open nominations through an online portal, staff assessment to select Excellence Awardees (the finalist tier), public announcement of finalists, scoring by a panel of independent judges drawn from senior HR leaders against published criteria, and winners revealed at the gala.

The 2026 edition featured 20 categories — four individual awards (Australian HR Director of the Year, HR Manager of the Year, HR Rising Star of the Year and HR Champion CEO of the Year) and sixteen team and organisational awards, including four Employer of Choice awards (three size bands plus a public sector and not-for-profit category), HR Team of the Year in two size bands, and best-programme categories for graduate development, leadership development, L&D, health and wellbeing, DEI, workplace flexibility, remote work, reward and recognition, recruitment and HR technology. Winners are announced at a black-tie ceremony at The Fullerton Hotel Sydney (4 September in 2026), and being named Excellence Awardee or winner carries recognisable weight in the Australian talent market, amplified through HRD's editorial coverage.

Nominations open in April and close in May (the 2026 window ran 7 April to a final closing of 15 May), Excellence Awardees are named around the end of June, and the gala follows in early September. Self-nomination and nominating others are both accepted via the official portal, and the judges score against published category criteria — so treat the entry like a business case: concrete initiatives, adoption metrics, retention and engagement outcomes, and evidence of impact over the eligibility period rather than general employer-brand claims.
